In 2025, the association inaugurated its own space in the city of Mohammedia, recognizing the need to create spaces for hosting, training, and artistic production, with a spirit of renewal and openness toward community actors and artists, especially youth.

In this new space, the association offers a wide range of artistic workshops and cultural activities accessible to all ages, genders, and social backgrounds. It also provides equipment and tools for artists and young cultural practitioners, promoting the sharing of available resources and means.

The space is also rooted in its immediate surroundings, especially the neighborhood it belongs to, by organizing activities for residents to meet their needs and engage with their ideas.

The space includes:

Youth Alternatives Forum

The Cultural Initiative

Renewal Solidarity Connection

Anyone closely observing the cultural landscape in Morocco can see that despite the efforts made, public policies and programs still do not give the cultural and artistic field the place it truly deserves. This is evident in development strategies, as well as in the human, technical, and financial resources allocated to it. The same goes for the evolution of institutional structures, modes of operation, and legal frameworks.

This reality leads us to ask whether it is possible to build networks of collaboration and collective work between artistic and cultural initiatives and associations. Artistic practice and cultural engagement raise essential questions, particularly about creative freedom and its interaction with the surrounding social environment.

For these reasons, and in connection with public cultural policies and the role of art in public spaces, it becomes essential to foster cooperation, shared resources, and solidarity among diverse initiatives. The Youth Alternatives Forum is rooted in a spirit of renewal, exchange of experience, knowledge sharing, and alignment around common values and fields of action.

As cultural and artistic initiatives participating in this forum, we announce the creation of a collaborative working nucleus designed to engage with existing realities and stimulate new possibilities. This foundation is based on three core principles:

Renewal: The nature of artistic and cultural work requires us to develop new approaches in both form and content. These approaches should embrace the rapid evolution of new technologies while remaining true to the creative spirit of the sector.

Solidarity: Limited material resources and the lack of specialized expertise in cultural management call for the pooling of spaces, tools, skills, and knowledge among members.

Connection: What unites us is stronger than what separates us. Strengthening our shared values, methods, and target audiences helps us build more coherent and impactful actions.

A creative summer experience that bridges youth expression and social reflection. Gorara’s Artistic Camp offers young people the tools to explore pressing issues through visual and performing arts.

The Artistic Camp

Youth, Art, and Social Questions

Art helps us reflect on and assess social values by creating mental spaces for critique, growth, and experimentation. That’s why it’s essential to encourage young people to engage in the arts — to elevate their tastes and enrich their imagination.

As part of its ongoing work with youth, and in partnership with the Association for the Development of Childhood and Youth, Gorara organized an artistic camp centered around art and social topics.

The goal of this camp was to create a space for learning and experimentation by connecting young people’s artistic interests to social issues, and by producing creative works that reflect their concerns and aspirations.

The African Forum for Social Theatre is a continent-wide initiative that promotes social theatre as a tool for civic engagement, artistic growth, and cultural connection.

The African Forum for Social Theatre is a project dedicated to networking, creativity, training, research, and institutional development aimed at promoting social theatre across the African continent. Launched in 2017 in Morocco, the initiative began with a forum gathering representatives from six North and West African countries.

The forum seeks to establish a supportive artistic network that promotes social theatre as a tool for public expression, artistic skill development, cultural and artistic exchange, and civic participation. It also aims to promote cultural rights, highlight and develop existing experiences in North and West Africa, and raise awareness about the importance of this form of theatre and its innovative practices.

Additionally, the forum will work toward building an institutional framework involving all African countries. This includes creating a reflective space and establishing an organizational structure for theatre practices that align with the values and principles of social theatre.

Partner institutions strive to achieve these goals by spreading the techniques of social theatre as mechanisms for societal development. They aim to enhance the artistic skills of their members and civil society actors, establish a platform that supports this type of theatre, and advocate for and support the causes of its practitioners.

Over the long term, the project envisions becoming a space for collective reflection and organizational structuring. It seeks to reintegrate North Africa into its natural continental context by strengthening ties with the rest of Africa. This initiative is not time-limited but represents the first building block of a long-term effort involving multiple African theatre institutions.

The project methodology is based on a participatory approach rooted in horizontal management among partner organizations, along with autonomy in selecting local activities according to each country’s context. This ensures a suitable and non-competitive working environment for both artists and institutions.

The project relies on strong strategies centered around capacity-building and networking through open sessions, as well as creating a shared platform for social theatre. It also aims to develop a comprehensive social theatre guide that compiles experiences and profiles of practitioners across the continent.

Annual meeting spaces will be created to facilitate exchange, collaboration, peer learning, and the identification of institutional needs. Invitations will be extended to various artists, institutions, and coalitions from across the continent.

A digital platform will serve as a safe space for free expression, advocacy, and lobbying efforts targeting policymakers. With further funding, this platform may evolve into the “African Federation for Social Theatre,” creating opportunities for international partnerships and showcasing performances in marginalized areas. The project also supports collective evaluation, adherence to universal human rights principles, the valorization of African culture, and the linking of North and Sub-Saharan Africa through an expansive network.

It further promotes interdisciplinary research and studies in the fields of art, politics, and society, through collaborative research and educational publications.

Ana Fanane is the perfect balance between art and education. Dreamed of, imagined, and then brought to life, Ana Fanane is a project that puts art at the service of the youngest. Born from a season-long series of educational and interactive workshops, young participants—both creative and passionate—introduce themselves and their talents through six theater performances.

Like a blank canvas, Ana Fanane is a space for expression, a medium that these young artists have painted with their own colors, emotions, and experiences.

#AnaFanane, the theater festival, is an event not to be missed on Thursday, June 27, and Friday, June 28, 2019, at L’Uzine.

Why #AnaFanane?

It’s worth noting that these young Fnana (artists) chose to join the project themselves. Coming from the associations L’Heure Joyeuse, Dar Taliba, and Bayti, this vibrant group of 12 to 16-year-olds is bursting with energy, potential, and passion. Ana Fanane was created to develop and guide their diverse and multidisciplinary talents, teaching them not only know-how but, more importantly, life skills.

“Ana Fanane, ana fanane”— a song filled with childhood memories.

Due to societal stereotypes, children often aspire to become doctors, lawyers, or ministers rather than artists. Ana Fanane is both a call to reason and a celebration of passion. It exists to restore hope and purpose.

#AnaFanane – The How and the Why ?

Through interactive workshops led by experienced artist-mentors, Ana Fanane uses theater, stage direction, and the arts as tools for learning and empowerment.

With three associations, four trainers, five partners, twelve months of work, and more than 100 young actors and participants, this is the essence of #AnaFanane.
