Theatre for Civic Change
This project supports young aspiring theatre groups, students from Casablanca-Settat universities and institutes, as well as youth involved in community work. It offers training, creative production, social mediation, and advocacy tools.
Inspired by Theatre of the Oppressed techniques, the project aims to promote active citizenship and social involvement through creative expression. It targets five emerging theatre groups through the following activities:
- Training in forum theatre techniques
- Artistic residencies
- Theatre production and performance
- Dialogues with policymakers
- Advocacy targeting relevant authorities
Initiated by Gorara for Arts and Cultures and funded by the European Union under the Citizen Participation Program, this project empowers youth through art and civic dialogue.
About Forum Theatre
Forum Theatre is a method from the Theatre of the Oppressed school, created by Brazilian writer and director Augusto Boal. It transforms passive audiences into active participants. A facilitator, or "joker," engages the public in altering the play’s course by offering solutions to the issues presented.
Project Activities
- Audio-visual content and training workshops on forum theatre
- Two artistic residencies for participating youth groups
- Theatre productions created by the youth
- Meetings with decision-makers on the issues raised
- Community gatherings to assess needs and evaluate progress
