Founded in 2016, building on the experience of Théâtre de l’Opprimé Casablanca, which has been active in the cultural and artistic scene since 2012, particularly in street theatre.
Gorara’s activities revolve around three main pillars that shape all its projects, its thinking, and its areas of engagement:
These pillars can only be effective and lead to meaningful results if they are grounded in clear values that define us as citizens and as human beings.
These values, guiding every action, reaction, reflection, or moment of self-examination at Gorara, stem from our unwavering belief in the human right to aspire to a society that guarantees the fundamentals of human dignity and builds active, creative citizens who enjoy their fundamental rights and participate freely and responsibly in shaping their environments.
These values are rooted in Gorara’s awareness of the vital social role of art in the fight against injustice, marginalization, and exclusion, and in contrast, in the promotion of solidarity, equality, and coexistence in both public and private spaces. The association also believes that the cultural horizon of our society depends on its modernization, drawing from its progressive history while embracing heritage as a shared human civilizational experience adapted to the current context.
Beyond national borders, Gorara operates in Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, thanks to the many partnerships and human relationships it has nurtured over the years with like-minded organizations that share its vision. These relationships and collaborations have taken shape over time through mutual connections.
Gorara recognizes the importance of transmitting art and culture across all social layers, ages, and genders, with a particular focus on youth, seen as the primary engine of any future development. Through training, activities, and creations in the educational, artistic, and social fields, Gorara uses every available tool and leverages new technologies while remaining conscious that the medium is just that—a tool, not an end in itself.
Thus, Gorara for Arts and Cultures contributes to the progress of a civic, creative, and effective society through art, as a tool for social and political change, and as a cradle for democratic, modern, and enlightening values.
